Professional Studies
'Getting together with other trainees on the professional study days is one of the highlights of the week.'
History Trainee.
Every Thursday, when not on teaching practice, all trainees attend Professional Studies sessions together as a group. A range of topics are covered in the Professional Studies sessions including; lesson planning. SEND, behaviour management, pastoral care, assessment, EAL, jobs and interviews, innovative teaching strategies and literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.
Although the majority of the sessions take place at Glenthorne High School, expertise from across the partnership and outside speakers contribute to the delivery to ensure the highest quality of training. Finally, it is a great opportunity for trainees to meet each week and share ideas and experiences form their contrasting schools within Sutton SCITT.
'Professional Studies renews energy, injects pace and inspires you for the rest of the week. The guest speakers provide perspective and support. Professional Studies helps you look back at your teaching in a critical way and look forward to stepping back into the classroom.'
Drama Trainee.
'I have found the Professional Studies sessions to be of invaluable support during my training year. The talks given by guest speakers from other schools were particularly beneficial, and the support and advice from the SCITT organisers have really helped me to move forward in my training.'
MFL Trainee.
The Professional Studies sessions are led by Kate Potts and Sophie Cabral.
