Design Technology

In Design and Technology subject studies, we will give you the best possible start to your career as a Design and Technology teacher. It will allow you to experience one of the most varied subjects that provides skills and experiences that will remain with individuals for the rest of their lives. The studies will show you how students are able to work with modern materials regardless of age or gender, in a safe and inspiring, hands on environment.

During the subject knowledge training you will be fully supported in all fields of Design and Technology; Product Design, Textiles, Food Technology, Graphic Design and Resistant Materials. You will be able to select the most appropriate field to focus on, while still gaining the essential experiences in all of the Technology areas. You will be encouraged to work with both new and old technologies in a way that will inspire the designers of the future.

The Design and Technology subject session will be school-based and combine theory and practical work.  It is delivered by a team of experienced teachers and technicians who are also there to support you in your training needs. You will gain vital experiences within all the workshops and complete the mandatory health and safety training that is required for a Design and Technology teacher. During your studies, you will be able to witness a broad range of teaching styles and projects through structured observations and discussion sessions and have the opportunity to use the equipment and library resources.

You will receive personalised support during your two contrasting school placements, where you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice, observe experienced teachers and receive regular feedback and guidance from a dedicated mentor.
