Studying English makes better people, and makes better societies: "there are real, tangible benefits to the humanistic disciplines-to the study of History, Literature, Art, Theatre, Music, and Languages". - The New Republic

In English subject studies, we will open your eyes to the fascinating, varied, complex, exciting and incredibly important subject that is English and guide you to do the same for your students. You will discover the different ways children learn in the English classroom and how to deal with the common mistakes and misconceptions that arise, while making this an enjoyable and relevant experience for your students.

You will be supported in developing your subject knowledge and use of a variety of pedagogical approaches both in and out of the classroom. You will be encouraged to take risks, share ideas, reflect upon your readings and practice, while working as part of a close-knit English group.

The English subject tutors are outstanding practicing teachers who will share their experience and skills with you. We are passionate about the teaching and learning of English and believe that a good teacher is always learning, changing and improving through reflection, research, action research and risk-taking. We will introduce you to these ideas and theories and guide you to critically evaluate them and make links between theory, research and practice. You will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of teachers and teaching styles and will have access to our extensive library of resources.

You will receive personalised support from us during your two contrasting school placements, where you will have the opportunity to put your learnings into practice, observe experienced teachers and receive regular feedback and guidance from a dedicated mentor.
