Art & Design
Art & Design
In Art and Design subject studies, trainees will have the opportunity to apply their own practical art and design skills and knowledge through engaging and diverse lessons which follow the national guidelines.
The inspiring programme will prepare trainees to teach a wide range of disciplines within art including fine art, photography, textiles and sculpture.
The course focuses on developing new teachers who have a passion for the creative arts and want to share their skills and knowledge with the next generation of artists, photographers, designers and crafts people. You will learn teaching techniques which ensure all pupils are able to access the curriculum and produce quality work through inspiring creative lessons.
You will be mentored and taught by highly enthusiastic and experienced teachers who have a history of achieving outstanding GCSE and A Level results. You will have the support of our Artist on Residence and gain knowledge of planning effective lessons which incorporate workshop based techniques and processes.
You will have access to excellent facilities including a photography studio and SLR cameras, computer suites with Photoshop and an extensive range of art materials for pupils to use such as canvases and lino printing. Exhibiting student work is an effective way to inspire pupils and teach them how to work to a brief, so you will have the opportunity to arrange exhibitions within our indoor and outdoor galleries.
During the subject training you will be supported by us during your two school placements, where you will have the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into practice in contrasting schools. You will observe experienced teachers and receive regular feedback and guidance from a dedicated mentor.
