Physical Education

Student on a TrampolinePhysical Education

During subject studies in Physical Education, we will explore a range of activities and sports, by focusing on the ever-increasing importance of PE as a subject which can formulate positive habits for healthy lifestyles and develop pathways for producing excellent athletes of the future.

You will discover different approaches to teaching PE from gymnastics and dance, to outdoor activities, to swimming and athletics, and of course to games. We will enable you as individuals to explore how to ensure all activities are accessible to all pupils by highlighting innovative teaching styles in both practical and theoretical contexts. Children learn to love PE when they enjoy it, but also when they are successful. The course concentrates on developing new teachers to ensure children can master skills and become knowledgeable about how to live healthy lives.

You will be mentored and taught by a range of passionate and extremely effective specialists within several outstanding PE departments with a rich history of providing excellent outcomes for pupils as well as for trainee PE teachers within the London Borough of Sutton . You will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of teachers and teaching styles through Sutton SCITT and will have access to our extensive library of resources and facilities.

You will receive personalised support from us during your two contrasting school placements, where you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice, observe experienced teachers and receive regular feedback and guidance from a dedicated mentor.
