Sutton SCITT Is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in teacher training. For all trainees, we provide a supportive and caring environment that enables trainees to develop their teaching skills with confidence and thrive on the course, ready on completion to enter the profession with a sense of pride and belonging at the start of a hopefully a long and rewarding career.

We aim to:

• develop a culture of respect, trust, openness, and acceptance,
• constantly strive to educate ourselves and develop our understanding of the barriers that some trainees face because of their identity and/or characteristics.

We have developed our professional studies and subject studies curriculum for trainees to explore and learn about diversity and inclusion in the school curriculum and the school environment. The SCITT Lead School was featured in a Channel 4 documentary ‘The School that Tried to End Racism’ and much work has happened since in working on inclusion with students and staff. Colleagues involved in this work have contributed to the SCITT professional studies programme creating unique opportunities to explore unconscious bias and how to tackle racist and other unacceptable behaviour in schools.
